Books By My Bed
I love to see what other people are reading, so I thought I would share the books that are beside my bed right now.
Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants (Robin Wall Kimmerer)
You have seen it on the best seller list and it doesn't disappoint. Memorable stories you will remember for a long time and perhaps change the way you see the world. Find it here.
Church of The Wild: How Nature Invites Us into the Sacred (Victoria Loorz)
I have had the privilege to talk with Victoria about shared emotions and experiences in our spiritual paths. This new, thoughtful title explores the perception and relationship between wildness and spirituality in history and in the current movement called "Wild Church". Find it here.
Wildflowers in Color: A Field Guide (Arthur Stupka, Donald H. Robinson)
I do not use an app for plant identification! I either try to describe it well enough to find in google or use old field guides. To me, is all about finding descriptive language and the adventure of the search. Find it here.
Sacred Earth Sacred Soul: Celtic Wisdom for Reawakening to What Our Souls Know and Healing the World (John Philip Newell)
The title is a good description of this work and if you are like me, you will definitely find sweet confirmation of things that you felt intuitively your entire life. Find it here.
American Wildlife and Plants: A Guide To Wildlife Food Habits (Alexander C. Martin, Herbert S. Zim, Arnold L. Nelson)
Here is a throw back! I remember reading this book when I was a little girl, curious as ever to find out what animals ate. Search an animal to find out what it consumes, or search a plant to find out how it fits in the eco-system and food chain. So much information. I love this book! Find it here.
Water, Wind, Earth & Fire: The Christian Practice of Praying with the Elements (Christine Valters Paintner)
Christine is a prolific and I have read many of her books. I also had the privilege of having some of my drawings included in her newer title, Earth, Our Original Monastery: Cultivating Wonder and Gratitude through Intimacy with Nature. Water, Wind, Earth & Fire has been beside my bed for a decade. I love to pick up every now and then, even for a few moments, to be reminded of the power and beauty of the four elements. Find Water, Wind, Earth & Fire . . . here. (Find Earth Our Original Monastery here.)
Bird, Exploring the Winged World (Phaidon Editors (Author), Katrina Grouw (Introduction), Jen Lobo (Contributor)
The newest to the table. A massive book of birds, art, and art history. This one will be here for a long time. Great for short moments of thought, inspiration, and beauty. Find it here.
