Finding What You Are Looking For

Field 2019

One of my granddaughters during last year's holiday open studio.

I used to walk the beach often and look for sea glass. Somedays I would seem to find an incredible amount of green. Sometimes brown. Other days, the harder to find purple pieces just seemed to be everywhere. Whatever I was looking for that particular day is what seemed to be the easiest to find. Realistically, I was not finding elusive purple pieces because the ocean had decided to wash them all up just for me on a particular day. The beach is full of all sorts of colors every day! I was finding the colors I was looking for because my intent, my focus, and my anticipation was on that color. I found what I was looking for because I was simply looking for it!

Just like the beach offering of all sorts of color every day, the world is full of completely different experiences. Good and Bad. Beautiful and Ugly. Tragedy and Joy. Its all there! How can we find the good, the beautiful, the joy? Its all a mix and there are no guarantees, but we have an incredible advantage of finding the good that we are hoping for if we are actually looking for it. It is simple. We find what we are looking for when we make an intention, are focused, and are actively looking for it!

During last year's Holiday Open Studio, one of my granddaughters came in the door and ran directly toward the mandala that was being made. She dropped to her stomach and stared intently at a stick. My intention, over the past year, has been to be like her. To look closer. To seek out beauty. To be curious and find surprises in both nature and in life. And I am finding them in both!

As our eyes begin to look towards a new year, I challenge you to make an intention, become focused, get serious, and find what that you are looking for. Its there. Go find it!
